Ray Abbott - An Outstanding History with Allied Van Lines

Ray Abbott’s History with Allied Van Lines

You might know Ray as Vice President of Sales & Corporate Development, here at Tippet-Richardson. However, something you may not be aware of is Ray Abbott’s history with Allied Van Lines.

MacCosham’s

Back in 1982, Ray worked as a Driver for MacCosham, in Edmonton, AB. At that time, the biggest Allied Agent in Canada was MacCosham. They had an astounding 48 operating offices across Canada. Below, we see Ray’s very own MacCosham truck – the first one he ever bought.

The first truck Ray ever bought, working for MacCosham's Van Lines in '82

“For much of its first 100 years MacCosham was a moving and trucking company based in Edmonton, Alberta and operating a range of trucking services throughout western Canada. By the beginning of the 21st century the company had evolved into what it is today – a specialized service provider for Canadian Pacific Kansas City Railway’s Intermodal division operating yard management and chassis repair services.”MacCosham

Allied Van Lines

MacCosham left Allied Van Lines, to become independent, in 1986. It was at this point that Ray moved across, to work directly for Allied. With this new role came a new truck – pictured below – emblazoned with Allied’s recognisable orange flare.

Ray’s driving career spanned 9 years and included plenty of good memories and interesting times. One exceptional job involved the installation of the below-pictured Noorduyn C-64 Norseman aircraft. This single-engine bush plane, hung inside the atrium of the Suncor Energy Centre (formerly Petro-Canada Centre) in Calgary, Alberta, for over 40 years. In 2024, it was removed to be displayed at the Hangar Flight Museum. Ray recalls climbing up and placing sandbags inside, to give the plane an aesthetically pleasing tilt to the side.

In 1989, Ray hopped into Sales, and he’s felt at home there ever since.
