Moving with Children

Moving with children?  To keep your sanity and to ensure that your children aren’t adding extra chaos to the move, it’s a good idea to arrange childcare.  This applies to the pack and load days as well as for delivery day.  However, this isn’t always possible.  Here are some tips, to help you all through the transition:

Preparing your children for the move

Making sure that your children are on-board with the decision to move and know what to expect during the process will make things far less stressful and upsetting for everyone.  Taking the time to discuss plans with your kids will prevent problems in the long run.

Younger children

Younger children will need extra support during a move, as they’re more likely to have concerns and fears about the upheaval.  Parenting Squad have some useful advice on how to help them before, during and after your move.

Older children

Older children are still likely to need some support during the transition of a move, so take their concerns seriously. You can help empower them by getting them involved.  Packing up their own room (with assistance, where needed) is a good start. If you’re moving to a new town, you can research your destination together, so that the focus is on a new adventure. You can also assign them manageable tasks on moving day, to occupy them in a useful way.

And, finally…
