Vancouver City Guide

Things to do in Vancouver
A stunning coastal city in British Columbia, Vancouver stands out for its natural beauty and mild climate. Mountains and the Pacific Ocean come together to create a unique backdrop for this lively city. With easy access to beaches, hiking trails, and greenery, it is no wonder that this port city attracts outdoor lovers year-round. Whether you are planning to simply visit or actually move to Vancouver, here are some attractions you cannot miss out on.
1. Capilano Suspension Bridge Park
A recipient of the Travelers’ Choice Award by TripAdvisor, the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park is a can’t-miss adventure only 15 minutes away via complimentary shuttle from downtown Vancouver. Its iconic suspension bridge allows for stunning views of the surrounding nature while swaying gently 70 meters above the Capilano River. Across the suspension bridge, the Treetops Adventure gives tourists a chance to view the park from a squirrel’s point of view by climbing onto 33-meter tall platforms, which get their lift from eight 250-year-old Douglas firs, interconnected by smaller suspension bridges. Children can also become Rainforest Explorers and complete a series of self-guided interactive activities that will earn them a reward at the end.
2. Grandville Island
Once an industrial area, Grandville Island is now home to shops, restaurants, galleries and the famous Granville Island Public Market. The market features stalls that offer fresh produce, baked goods, artisanal cheeses, and international treats, as well as meals which visitors can enjoy in the tables outside facing the beautiful False Creek. Tourists looking to explore False Creek further can rent kayaks or paddle boards, or simply get on one of the ferries which frequently depart the dock.
3. VanDusen Botanical Garden and Bloedel Conservatory
Located in the Shaughnessy neighbourhood, the VanDusen Botanical Garden spans 55 acres and is home to over 7,500 plant species from around the world. It’s often referred to as an oasis in the heart of Vancouver and offers changing landscapes throughout the year as seasons come and go. The botanical garden hosts a variety of activities and events each month, including summer camps for children and its famous Festival of Lights in the winter. Visitors can also stop by the Shaughnessy restaurant, where meals are prepared using vegetables from the garden.
4. Dog-friendly activities to do in Vancouver

Vancouver is a dog’s dream city. With eight off-leash beaches, including the Hadden Park dog beach and Spanish Banks, and diverse hiking trails, there is no shortage of dog-friendly activities in Vancouver. Dogs and their owners can also pay a visit to the stunning Stanley Park, a staple of the city, where they can walk around and enjoy the views the Seawall provides as well as go play in the off-leash area. Finally, pet owners and their furry companions cannot miss Pet-A-Palooza, a yearly event that features fun activities, photo ops, and more.
